In this episode of Ask Dubey, Devan Dubnyk answers your biggest Edmonton Oilers questions before announcing an exciting new chapter for the show. Dubey breaks down the Oilers' revamped goaltending…
From kbods12, "What do you think of Edmonton's new goalie additions?" Um, I like it.
I think that if you look at the situation and everything that we've talked about over and over and over again, um, the Oilers not being able to go into the season the same way with the same situation, this kinda solved that, um, without...
You know, it's not a long-term solution obviously with Andersen and his age, but you've got a couple things to me is you've got short-term, uh, veteran guy, just won a Stanley Cup, and is excited to get back at it.
And, and it's not that Tristan Jarry needs a security blanket, but you look at after the trade, um, all the adversity, all of this pressure on his shoulders going into the season, I don't think it was a fair situation for him to just go in as the guy and, and have everything on his shoulders.
But he doesn't have to be the, the automatic starting goaltender, and with his age as well, um, they're gonna try to keep him fresh and healthy, so there's gonna be lots of ice time to be had for Jarry.
But he's able to go play without feeling like the entire world's on his shoulders every time he goes in there.
And, and just something little like that can kind of free you up and, and take some pressure off, and maybe let him get back to his game, uh, that the Oilers were hoping he gets to after that trade.
So I think, uh, for what was available and what was realistic in the Oilers' situation, I think it was a really good signing, and, um, gave them an opportunity to kinda change that outlook of the goaltending, um, for next year and, and puts Tristan Jarry in a much better place to succeed as well.
And we all saw how good Freddie Andersen played last year, and fingers crossed that he can stay healthy like he did last year.
Um, I know the guy he's training with and is, uh, very, very good, um, Adam Francoual, so he's, uh, he's gonna be good that way.
But I'm excited to see, uh, a, a different look and hopefully take some, uh, some talk and some pressure off of these goalies and see how the, the year goes that way.
