181. Ty Ogunade, Author

Hello and welcome to another episode of Off the Shelf.

My guest this week is Ty Ogunde, who is a lawyer and writer of Nigerian heritage based in East London.

As the founder of the London Sci-Fi and Fantasy Authors Writing Group, he believes in making publishing more accessible to the voices that often don't get the opportunity to be heard within the sci-fi and fantasy genre.

It is Ty's mission to advocate for and write works that imagine future worlds or worlds that reflect the diversity of his own life and the city he calls home.

As a lifelong lover of sci-fi, his cyberpunk novel, A Blade Drawn From Envy, is the winner of the Future Worlds Prize 2026 and was born out of a desire to fulfil this mission and write the novel he has always wanted as a young reader.

One that challenges and reimagines what these novels can look like and who they can appeal to.
