A Reason to Run

Mel, why did you describe how you felt when you got your diagnosis of cancer?

I think similar.

I just remember sort of focusing in and thinking, this is it.

This is what my life is going to be now.

And similar, and I think one of the reasons, and while I think people get inspired by you for so many different reasons, people with cancer, people without it.

But as somebody who has gone through it, it was like you're – I've actually even heard you say no excuses.

I have cancer, no excuses, right?

Oh, yes.

I think it's written on a sign somewhere.

Yeah, it is.

And that was like for me because – It's like whatever your hand is you're dealt is what would be the excuse, right? And this is whatever it is.

I have cancer, not an excuse.

I have a stomachache, not an excuse.

I have ADHD, not an excuse.

So for me, it went into when I was diagnosed...

I'm going to handle this.

And I remember thinking, I'm going to be the best cancer patient there ever was.

But now you were incredibly fearful.

Yes, for sure.

But I consider the cancer journey and getting through that fear like one of the biggest gifts I've ever been given.

But it took you time.
