Episode 200 - Next Lawyer Up with Ron Sykstus featuring Doug Jones

Well, so to your point, you know, let's talk about the hopeful future, right? Hey, you know what? We just, before we started this, we were talking about Hamilton.

I mentioned to you, I just saw Hamilton three weeks ago for the third time.

I love it.

And again, it's not like I'm a big musical guy, but I just love it.

I love the history.

And the Chernow book, I never read...

Like I don't do podcasts more than once.

But for you, I don't read books.

I never read a book.

And I like to read never read a book twice.

But Hamilton, I'm now on my third read.

The history is just crazy.

But, you know, when I read that, you know, in all the interplay

with all those

founding fathers, I want to ask you about your time in the Senate.

Is it you know, it just seems like politics back then was almost as messy as it is now.

Yeah, I think politics has always been messy.

I mean, it is really, I don't think there's been a time in our history where politics hasn't been messy.

It's been only a few occasions, though, where it's actually been destructive.

And that's what I see now.

I saw, you know, things leading up to the Civil War, our politics over slavery were destructive.

Today, it is really about the power of one person in this country Donald Trump, that is destructive.

I mean, I really believe that the politics have become so partisan that people are not just jockeying for power, but there is a portion of this, and it really flows from this administration.

That are that's really a destructive politics.

There are there are things that people can agree on.
