Trusting Your Intuition As A Writer

And that leads into the writing update.

So if you've been here for a while, you've heard me talk about Blitches, my Black Witches book that I've been working on for what seems like forever.

Really, it was this time last year.

It must have been that I was dedicating myself into plotting it.

I have to look back at the calendar, but...

It would have been around this time last year that I would have turned in edits for Zahara because usually that's about a year out.

And then I turned my focus to the new project and Blitches had been in my head for a couple of years.

Just the idea of Black Witches and wanting to do, I think at that point I had the idea of the magical HBCU project.

And I had to sit down and figure out what the story was.

And so I plotted.

I did the first draft in November as my own NaNoWriMo as a screenplay.

I was experimenting doing my first draft as a script.

I really liked that process.

But also the story that I had.

I mean, the core story is actually the same.

And I always say that.

It's like I've made all these changes to the story, but the heart of it, heart and soul of it is the same.

But a lot of the aspects of it are different.

So I worked on that.

I had the first couple of chapters and a detailed synopsis for the second draft.

And I gave that to my agent around March of this year.

And he gave me feedback.

And I was working on that feedback and making those changes, making those improvements.

That's kind of been the story since, I guess, about April.

I had a really clean synopsis that was changed.
