Episode 28: True Grit

So today we will recap the finals day in the Dexcom as Ulster shocked Connacht at home to clinch their first ever win in over a decade and Munster picked up their second title in a row despite the valid efforts of a resurgent Leinster squad.

So we go to that first game, Connacht versus Ulster, Caelan.

I certainly didn't see that coming.

What changed for Ulster or perhaps Connacht for Ulster to seal that third place and their first win in such a long time?

It's a bit of a strange one, isn't it? Because I think all of us coming into this game and look, we're not guaranteed to be right or anything like that.

But I think all of us coming into this, we just thought it'll open up for Connacht.

They'll get the win.

physically dominated.

Their attack was poor enough at times.

Todd Ulster played with a level of expansivity and freedom and

not a fear.

What's the opposite of fear?

It's been a long day.

No, they just played with that kind of freewheeling confidence.

And funnily enough, I was speaking to Fiona Tewish or Sullivan yesterday and And she was talking about, I just asked, like, you know, because we're at an EV event, I just asked, how is it coming into camp this week? And she's like, it's unbelievable.

You know, it's so good.

It was her first win in Ulster, Jersey.

Now, if memory serves, I don't want to go all over your intro.

I do think they beat Connacht in, was it down in Cork that year, potentially, the year the finals were down there, but they haven't won a round-robin game.

So for players like Fiona Tudor-Sullivan, like that was her first win for Ulster and to think of all the mileage she's had with them but she spoke about pre-game and how she was like trying to get locked in and she's had a brilliant couple of weeks we'll touch on that later but she's trying to get locked in get locked in she said there's other players they're singing and dancing and I did say it to her after she finished I was like that is so phenomenally healthy like you don't realise do you know what I mean I know if you lose it's easy to play the other side but that is so like they were there was no fear factor at all they were there to spoil the party and I think Stacey Sloan announced her retirement after the game, for example.

So you've got that end of the spectrum.

And then you also have some of the younger players there as well that would have experienced that win.

So it's unbelievable.
