I recently realized that six of my last eight Instagram posts had one thing in common: eye masks. I didn't plan it or decide "eye masks are my brand now." I just kept documenting my mornings, and…
Okay, so we've all seen the trend floating around Instagram that says, "It's kind of chic to..." Fill in the blank.
Whatever, I'll skip it." Still kept seeing it, still kept seeing it, still kept seeing it.
One day, we were hosting a live master class, and I had just ordered this cute new outfit from Revolve, which was kind of expensive, to be totally honest.
I put it back in the package, and I was gonna return it, but my mom was coming to pick up Henry, and I'm like, I was gonna have her re- drop it off for me at UPS.
And I'm like, "I'm just gonna try it on really quick." So I tried it on, and I'm like, "Okay, I actually love it." It's, like, a bright orange with a pink trim, so it's, like, very on brand.
And I took a s- quick selfie, and then I posted on my stories on the Modern Agent Instagram, "It's kinda chic to only wear on-brand colors." Then I decided to make it a permanent post in my feed, and as I posted it, I was like, "Okay, wait a second." Not only was I wearing an on-brand color, but I had eye masks on.
[chuckles] And as I'm looking at my feed, I'm like, "Six of the last eight posts, I have eye masks on.
How have I not [chuckles] noticed this in my feed?" Now, my first thought was like, "Part of my brand menu.
I'm gonna make this part of my brand menu." And I'm telling you this as a reminder that with a personal brand, with the marketing that we teach, you have to not sit and wait around for an idea to land on your lap.
But it's through the art of noticing and through showing up that little things like that, like, become aha moments.
We'll see." But my idea was something along the lines of marketing before mascara or eye masks and marketing advice, and then I would do, like, a little face to cam in my eye masks.
So this was, like, my aha moment, first of all, that I'm always wearing them.
Sometimes these personal brand categories, cues, whatever word you like to use, they are not super visible to ourselves.
Like, I'd noticed it because I saw, okay, there's, like, six of these [chuckles] in the same viewpoint of looking at my Instagram grid.
Like, other people commented on them, or like, "What eye masks are those?" By the way, shout out Lux Unfiltered.
