Chelsea once walked into her first brokerage meeting completely unaware of the group chat everyone else had apparently been in the night before about what to wear. Everyone showed up in suits, and…
I remember my first meeting at my brokerage that I started at, I wasn't even licensed yet.
They just invited me like, hey, like they knew I was going to be starting with them, come to a meeting, meet everyone.
But the first thing I noticed as I looked around is that everyone must have called each other the night before and said, like, what are you wearing tomorrow? and I missed the memo because I was new, and everyone was wearing suits and looked very professional and nice, so what did I do? I went to Express.
That was my go-to at the time, and I took out a credit card and spent $2,000 on skirts, dress pants, blazers, shirts for under my blazers.
I got a couple pair of heels from, what was that shoe store? I think it was called Aldo That was like where the majority of my money went back in that time period of my life.
Obviously, fast forward, shockingly or not, I eventually came to learn that if I wanted to attract clients to me, that blending in was the exact opposite strategy that I should be following.
I could still do my job really well, but I wanted to run my business in a way that felt more authentic to me.
So I don't mean when I say the neon pink, like, oh my gosh, like dye your hair or do something crazy or like wear sparkles.
But what I meant was like, I don't need to be in this like robot sea of gray, like picture drawing black dots on a Ford, and they're all the same.
