Amber TaylorGuestMark SmithHostAnd, you know, what that brought up for me is what happens when things go wrong, right? That's when your governance system kicks in.
It's when the proverbial shit hits the fan that you need a governance system to really be there and put those controls.
And when I think of that, let's just take the data layer for a second and or data residency and where that sits and, you know, best practice, From a hyperscaler perspective is that there should be three copies of your data at any point.
There should be at least 50K of geography separation between at least one of those sets of data so that something like an earthquake or a fire or whatever doesn't destroy.
Like it's no point in having three disparate sets in the same data center, if you like.
How do you think about that? And I suppose my question is broader than that in New Zealand.
Do we have that infrastructure for Maori data that it is geographically, you know, got that distance from a disaster recovery perspective? But also around, I was in a workshop with Meg in the far north and a lady was talking about her hapu and she was saying that, you know, there's some things that we just like to keep secret to ourselves.
flax at that point and I'd say harakiki but I know they don't even use that word for flax in the far north they have another name for it and it was just it was interesting is that there's some nuance in indigenous data and Maori data particularly how do you how do you think about that across New Zealand?

Okay, to the best of my knowledge, I don't think we have that capability in terms of keeping the data separated.

But also, I haven't been deep diving into what's happening in that particular space at the moment.

When I was looking, when I was writing this paper, and it also came up in a conversation I was having with one of the professors from Waikato University, we were talking about what actually is sovereign.

Because even if the data is kept on Aotearoa land, what actual, what AI system are you using or processing with? So to your point, if you've used ChatGPT and you've taken that, what ChatGPT has given you and you've taken that data and you've put it on Aotearoa land, is that still sovereign? Because you've actually just introduced another party who we don't have governance over.

And a lot of the replies I was getting or responses I was getting about that was, oh, but they're not training on my data.
