Women over 40 are hearing the message loud and clear: You need to strength train. You need to lift heavy. You need to build muscle. But what does that actually mean—and how much strength training do…
So I want to throw a disclaimer here at the beginning because this is these kind of topics like specifically about how to exercise for certain age groups.
I have found myself over the years very very much kind of not necessarily wanting to dip my toe in.
It's because I do not want women to think at all in any way, shape, or form that you hit a certain age and it means you have to change your workout program.
There is nothing magic about turning 40 and suddenly saying, I guess I need to change what I'm doing.
And sometimes when we talk about this, like specific exercises after a certain age, I see fear come up in women around the marketing of it all saying, oh, I guess I need to suddenly change how I'm lifting weights or I need to suddenly change what I'm doing, how I'm running.
I need to drop the exercises I love because they might not be safe for me anymore.
This is actually more about the benefits and the importance of strength training, especially as we age, like exponentially how important it is and how you can do that or what it might look like over a certain age.
So if you already have a plan in place that you love and you might be turning 40 this year, there is nothing to say you need to change that.
I do think that there's importance in listening to a podcast like this to see if there's any pieces maybe you're missing.
But maybe you're thinking to yourself, you know what, but I haven't really been consistent enough with strength training.
This is a great time and a great encouragement to simply start adding that to your routine.
Or maybe you've said to yourself, you know what, I have been lifting weights for years now, but I haven't quite seen the results that I want.
