Change is one of the few things we can count on in life—and yet it's something most of us resist. In this personal episode, Jessica shares what she's navigating in her own life right now, from the…
So I thought I would throw this out here for any of you just going through life changes, and this really is about just the changes that life brings us just by being alive, just by walking through the world, our bodies changing, aging, our kids getting older and going through their seasons of life and leaving the house, and what that looks like and what that feels like, and moving and relationships changing.
Just the nature of life is change, right? It's the only thing that we're really guaranteed, is that things will change, that they don't stay the same.
I just wanna talk through it with you today and get some thoughts out and, um, maybe some of you are going through the same thing, no matter what stage of life you're in.
So this isn't necessarily about other changes that come our way, like those sudden changes that do happen when we're given a diagnosis we didn't expect, when we have a sudden job change we didn't expect, when we have a big relationship change that we didn't expect, when we lose someone in our life when we didn't see that coming.
I'm not necessarily talking about those today, and I say that just to make sure you know I'm not downplaying how those feel, 'cause I've had those happen as well, and that's a different set of coping mechanisms.
But like I said, I definitely don't wanna downplay it, so this, these aren't necessarily the same things and the same questions that I went through when I got my breast cancer diagnosis.
This really is just what I think we... well, I kinda wanna say I hope that we all go through, because I don't wanna feel like I'm alone in it.
But being 48 now, so I was just very aware in the past few years of this idea of being on, in the second half of life.
Like, what have we done up to this point with our life? Are we where we wanna be? Um, are there big things we still wanna do? Or like, how are we making goals or making plans for what we wanna do in the second half of our life? And then having...
But that too, like, I'm very aware of, gosh, we have how many years left of her here at home? So that's a change I just know is coming.
And I know many of you have gone through all of these things, which is maybe why I wanna be here talking, [laughs] so you can reassure me.
Um, so yeah, body changes with aging- I'm having a lot of awareness around that, about what things that didn't use to make me sore that do make me sore now.
Do I need to adjust workouts as I age or those kind of general changes? Um, having had breast cancer and going through a mastectomy, that's a big change, a big body change.
Um, and then we have some other, like, life changes that we're just dealing with as a, you know, family and as a couple right now, some big decisions that we need to make.
So I've just kind of been sitting on those and thinking about them and thought that I would get on here to just have, like, a one-on-one episode and conversation about change.
So when I was on a walk this morning, I really tried to get into the nitty-gritty about it a little bit with myself.
