So let's talk about it, shall we? When we look at addiction from the outside, it's easy for us to focus on the behavior, the drinking, the drugs.

the gambling, the shopping, the pornography, the food, the scrolling, the work, whatever the behavior happens to be.

We see the behavior and think, why don't they just stop? But trauma work asks a different question.

What is the behavior doing for them? Because behaviors don't usually appear out of nowhere.

stimulation, comfort, a break from their own thoughts, a break from their own body, a way to feel something, or a way to feel absolutely nothing.

Maybe work keeps someone so busy they never have to feel what they're carrying.

And eventually, the thing that once helped you survive can start creating problems of its own.
