You have to create space for them to learn.

Well, I was thinking about that, right? Like, um, the idea of, uh, being able to follow Jesus, right?

Yeah.

Um, yes, there's a formula, right? Yes.

You could do, you know...

And it, you talked about it, right? Like we became very efficient as a church at telling people, like, "These are the things you need to do," right? And you can follow a formula, you can follow a recipe, right? And you could be a, a, a, a, a believer, right? And you just do the things that you're told.

Yeah.

You follow the recipe.

Mm-hmm.

And I think it's the same way for a kid, right? Like I think about Marco, and he's in school now, and he's, like, starting to learn math, right? And y- you could tell him, well, like, "Well, two plus two equals four," right? And he could memorize.

I mean, he's, he's got a great memory, so he'll just, like, remember all of these things.

But if you just become someone that, or a parish that just focuses on having people repeat things, you could get people to be really good at repeating the same thing.

And you, you could, you know, I could make Marco into, like, a very good at parroting everything.

But is that really teaching him how to think critically, right? Like, if you're gonna learn math, you gotta learn different building blocks, and you gotta wrestle and struggle, and you gotta learn that there's not always a right answer.

Yeah.

And you kinda have to figure out how you look at problems from a different perspective.

But that's gonna take years, right? He's a six-year-old.

Like, he can't comprehend so many different things, and you would never teach, you know, a kid in kindergarten about calculus or physics.

Yeah.

Because you need foundations, you need building blocks.

Um, and that's gonna take years for him to figure out how to think in that way, right? And I think it's no different in faith, right? Like, I think we sometimes try to make faith something that you will automatically figure out in three months or less, right? It's like a subject that you can master, and it's really not, right? Like, this is a lifelong journey.
