**Episode 36: The Live Well with Arthritis Podcast** *#36 Heatwaves and Joint Pain: Myth or Reality? Emily Shares the Science and Can Help* This summer, in the thick of the UK's back-to-back…
And this is an episode that I've wanted to do since that heat wave in June because, oh my goodness me, It really did have an impact on my joints.
And that's why I created the heat wave tips guide that I launched on social media for people to download for free on my website, which you can do so in the show notes after this episode.
So what I want to cover in this episode is, first of all, is it a myth or reality? What do the systematic reviews actually say about barometric pressure, temperature and joint pain? And, you know, what is the honest answer there? And why is it more interesting than a straight yes or no? Second, this summer's heat waves here in the UK and why? Well, it's warm, so it should be better might actually be a bit of a myth.
And third, the sort of scientific backbone of the whole episode is the sleep pain inflammation loop.
Now, I haven't done a dedicated episode on sleep yet, so I will touch this mildly, but I will do another episode on sleep at some point.
But essentially, the sleep pain inflammation loop is a real mechanism, I feel, that's hiding underneath most of these weather induced flare ups.
I recall or call back to the different things that I use that helped me with, you know, any kind of flare up.
And I did talk about it in episode 34 about the heat wave and what I did during the concert when I was seeing Take That with my mum.
and so yeah I'm going to be talking through all of these different things and as always this is not medical advice I do have my disclaimer at the end of every episode but this is just a conversation and I'm sharing what has worked for me personally and of course anything I say about CBD comes with the same caveat that I always give please talk to your rheumatologist or GP before you start anything new because it is a supplement and your medications could interact with it you just don't know and you know your biology is personal to you so yeah I just wanted to make sure that I said that.
