Honour of God or Honour of Man? (Sermon Series on John) - Sunday, 9th August 2026

John chapter 5.

John chapter 5, and we're going to look at one verse, we talked about it last week, where Jesus says you cannot believe because you receive honor one of another, not the honor that cometh only from God.

And that's where we're going to go, but we're going to go through the passage that we went through last week just to catch some of the truth there as we go into this.

So John chapter 5, and we are beginning at verse 36.

But I have a greater witness than that of John, for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

And the Father himself which hath sent me hath borne witness of me.

Ye have neither heard his voice yet at any time, nor seen his shape.

And ye have not his word abiding in you, for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.

Search the scriptures, for in them you think that you have eternal life, and they are they which testify of me.

And you will not come to me that you might have life.

I want you to catch that there.

He doesn't say, and you don't.

He doesn't say, you can't.

He says, you will not.

You know, the only reason somebody ends up in hell in this age of grace is because they will not come.

Because he's willing.

He's willing.

He's willing to save all.

Everyone that calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Whosoever believeth on him, anybody and everybody, it's got to be, and really what it is, is it's a decision not to come.

That means somebody is lost.

They decide that they're not going to come.

I receive not honor from men, but I know you, that you have not the love of God in you.

Now, they would have said, yes, we do love God.

Of course we love God.

We're the people of God.

We love God with all our hearts.

But he says, no, you don't have the love of God in you.

It's not in you.

I am come in my Father's name, and you receive me not.

If another shall come in his own name, him you will receive.

And then he says it.

How can ye believe? which receive honor one of another, and seek not the honor that cometh from God only.

Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father.

There is one that accuseth you, even Moses, whom ye trust.

For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me, for he wrote of me.

But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? And there's our verse up on the screen for us.

How can ye believe, which receive honor one of another, And seek not the honor that cometh from God only.

Father, would you bless us as we look to your word? Lord, we need your help.

Lord, every word that you spoke, Lord, was precious.

It was wonderful, Lord.

It was like drops of water in a desert land.

And this verse, Lord, teaches us so much about ourselves.

And about the relationship that you want to have with us.

Lord, would you bless each one in this room in Jesus' precious name.
