2629: Bridges, Seeds, or Garbage

And here's what struck me just this past week.

Had the opportunity to enjoy some time at the beach in California, and was walking there.

It's just, it's beautiful.

It's beautiful coastline, obviously.

Beautiful weather, obviously.

Beautiful ocean.

But then unfortunately, there's lots of people that enjoy that as well, and with people come garbage.

There's plastic bottles and caps of plastic bottles and wrappers and broken toys and cigarette butts and just, you know, obviously just random trash everywhere.

And I, I just thought myself what everybody else thinks, you know, "Why isn't this cleaned up? Somebody should really be cleaning this up." And then it occurred to me, another thought crossed my mind, "Well, I should just do it then.

So why isn't that somebody me?" I thought, "Be the change that you wish to see in the world." So I did.

So every morning, um, after that I brought a pair of gloves and a garbage bag to the beach, and on our morning walk we'd get coffee, and then for 10 minutes I'd spend picking up garbage.

That's it.

Just 10 minutes.

And in 10 minutes, unfortunately, you can pick up a substantial amount of garbage.

And it doesn't make me a hero, shouldn't have a news story written about me.

It's not because I wanted recognition or I wanted content for a podcast.

It's because I thought I'd solve a problem.

It's because I recognized that for some reason, whatever reason, responsibility had been abdicated or abandoned, and somebody was there capable of doing something about it, and that person was me, and so I did it.
