Some people grew up in church. They know the verses. They know the routine. And somewhere along the way, the familiarity started working against them. Natasha calls it black ice — that moment when…
Mm-hmm.
So this topic pertains to people who are already going to church.
You know?
Mm-hmm.
People that grew up in church.
So this is me talking to myself in the past and being like, "What can I do for you to help you to break out of the familiarity of growing up in church?"
Mm-hmm.
I have this personal ick with pastors that harp on their congregation about, "The church needs to wake up.
The church needs to wake up." That bothers me, because people got up early that morning, got dressed, got their kids in the car, came to church.
It's just, I think they're either don't know how, or they, like, what I call black ice.
They, like, either black ice it, or they just don't know how.
And having someone harp on you, "You need to wake up.
The church needs to be on fire.
You need to wake up," I think it's unfair to the people.
And, uh, black ice is kind of like a term that I made up for myself.
Mm-hmm.
We have this thing called black ice, you know?
I know it, but explain it.
Yeah.
It's like, it's like you're driving, you got traction, and then you hit a patch of ice, and then you skid right over until you hit traction again.
And I think if, for me, I made up that term for myself because I would notice when I would be reading the Bible, it's like I'm tracking.
Mm-hmm.
