Paul GarnerHostTodd WoodHostAll right, so Paul, as I was thinking about coming here and what kind of episodes could we record here in the local area, glaciers seemed a really obvious one.

Maybe the amount of snowfall during the winter was so great that it doesn't all melt in the summer.

And so it becomes compacted as it accumulates year on year and eventually becomes a glacier.

Now, based on glaciers that we can observe in the present in other parts of the globe, we can recognize the marks that ice has left on the landscapes.

So for example glaciers tend to push debris along they sort of plow along like a bulldozer and they pile up material at the front of the glacier around the margins of the glacier and when the ice melts you end up with these big mounds of debris that we call moraines and Sometimes you can have water, melt water that's sort of flowing beneath the glacier or issuing out from the front of an ice sheet.

So we can see the effects of these landforms, the effects of the ice in the landforms around us.
