Miguel Salguero-Olivares is charged and currently sitting trial for the 2012 murder of 19 year old Faith Hedgepeth. Salguero-Olivares was arrested in 2021 after DNA technology linked him to evidence found at the crime scene. The Defense is arguing against the strength of that evidence, missing forensic material, and investigative mistakes made almost 14 years ago. The prosecution argues that the collected evidence links Salguero-Olivares to the Hedgepeth's body, to a fast-food bag with a written message, and to the Bacardi rum bottle which is believed to be the weapon used.
