Stefanie YoshiiGuest[gentle music] Going above and beyond to help families on their worst days, Heather Jordan has our KNX Hero of the Week, a volunteer who helps people cope after a devastating trauma.

Stephanie Yoshii is one of our amazing health professionals here in Southern California.

She spends her days working as the patient relations manager at UCI Health, but her work as a volunteer truly makes her a community hero.

TIP stands for Orange County Trauma Intervention Program, and Stephanie meets people at the hospital or clinic who are going through their toughest moments in life, giving them comfort through a hug or a holding of the hand, whatever they may need.

You know, my first job out of college was a counselor for the homeless mentally ill in San Francisco, and then I moved to Mission Viejo, and I saw it on their billboard, and it was just getting started in Mission Viejo.

Stephanie's presence often starts the healing process of whatever the person or the family may be going through, and she says it's a humbling space to be in.

They're inviting you into a space where they're mourning a loved one or getting ready to mourn a loved one, and so you just have to consider it as a sacred opportunity to be invited into.

You go in just being available to whatever situation, and it's just your presence.

I've gone through the 55-hour training, and I've done my three months of internship and have been supervised, and so that's part of the training for TIP.

She urges anyone who may be interested in this special type of volunteer work to check it out.
