In the account that Luke gives us in Luke chapter 22, we have God proclaiming the same story over and over and over again.
And we have people hearing a completely different story.
And we start by examining the hearts of the chief priests and scribes.
And the chief priests and scribes are very important because if anybody was going to miss the story of a savior for their sin and hope for a lost and dying world, it should not have been these gentlemen.
Notice that little word in front of the priest there is chief.
Chief.
So if you are a chief priest, let me tell you what that means.
You are the man.
You are the one who is an expert in religion and law.
And then we have what? The scribes.
The scribes literally were in charge of knowing the law.
In the Old Testament, there are around, people have different ideas, but there are around 300 prophecies Jesus Christ and what the Messiah was to be like.
So within the mind of these great men, they knew the prophets.
They knew all of the minor prophets and the major prophets.
And guess what? They knew all of it.
Every single bit.
They knew it from the beginning to the end, like the back of their hand.
They knew the I told you so was about what the Messiah was going to look like, right? But they could not hear God at their doorstep in their midst.
Because of one small little problem and that small little problem was me myself and i the most dangerous trinity there is so if you look at the scripture with me in verse 2 what does it say and the chief priest and the scribe saw how to worship jesus to ask him what heaven was like No, how can we kill him? How can we kill him? The Savior that came into the world to save them, they are now looking to execute.
