[water splashing] [upbeat music] Before Jesus started his ministry, there was a bold and unique man named John the Baptist.
Remember John from our other story? He was the miracle baby from Zacharias and Elizabeth, and he's older now.
Anyways, he had a very special job.
John was not an ordinary guy.
He was a little odd.
He lived in a wilderness far from the cities.
His clothes were made of camel's hair [camel grunting] and he ate locusts [locusts buzzing] and wild honey.
He was a little stinky [flies buzzing] and probably also had a beard.
But even though he was different, people respected him because he spoke the truth about God.
Stop doing wrong, and prepare your hearts for the Messiah." [laughs] Many people listened and wanted to change their ways.
They came to John and were baptized in the river as a sign that they wanted to follow God.
"Hey, John, why are you baptizing people?" the people asked.
I baptize with water." [water splashing] [laughs] Baptizing is kinda like taking a bath [laughs] but different.
When someone gets baptized, they are gently lowered into water [water splashing] and then brought back up like new.
Just like water washes dirt off of our skin, baptism is a symbol that Jesus washes away our sins and makes our heart clean.
[bell ringing] "Hey, John, why are you baptizing people?" the people asked.
[upbeat music] "Well," said John, "I am baptizing with water, but there is one who is coming that I am not even worthy to untie His sandals.
By the way, they didn't have shoes back then.
They all wore sandals.
