Kicking Tires: A Detroit Red Wings Podcast
Jun 30, 2026 · 50 min · 12 segments
After a break, Larkin is still in a Red Wings sweater and we still haven't found a consistent upload schedule. So, Alex takes on this episode alone to cover the draft and the Cossa fallout. Hosted by…
All right, segment one.
Lo and behold, it's not the one anyone thought it would be.
But Detroit does get into the first round pick on the back of trading Sebastian Kosa to the Utah Mammoth for pick 23 in the entry draft.
I would say that's good value for Kosa.
There was a lot of reports saying the value was going to be a second round pick.
Mind you, I always thought that was a little bit low.
I always thought the value there was low and he's still going to be a very, very good NHL goaltender.
It's just the path there was never linear.
And Detroit has a surplus of assets in the crease.
So I think they're pretty comfortable dealing Sebastian Kosa.
They always were.
I'm not too worried about losing the player as a whole.
Um, but it's kind of about where this value lies, right? Like I was never married to keeping Sebastian Kosa.
He obviously has some questions about his play.
Um, the big one being when he kind of gets to a league, the thing that I was always cautioning people is that he's a slow starter, right? Like his first couple of games in Toledo and the ECHL, they weren't pretty, did not have a good start there, but when he eased in, he was absolutely lights out in grand Rapids and the AHL.
He started slow.
He needed to find his footing.
And then when he found it, he was lights out mostly.
Thank you.
I don't know if it's an endurance thing, or I don't know if it's just like a fatigue thing as the time like wear and tear goes on.
Maybe it's that huge frame that he has.
He is six foot six.
