I Witnessed My Mother’s Murder | The Moment

What was Claire like as a mother?

My mum was bubbly, like she always had a smile on her face.

Anyone who would see her always said that her personality just lit up the room.

We always had Elvis on in the background.

We loved musicals so we'd listen to like Mary Poppins and dance around the living room as she's burning dinner.

She'd always drink coffee and if I smell coffee now that's all I think of my mum.

And how did she meet Ben?

I don't actually know how she really met Ben.

I do know that it was back in 1999.

I think I must have been about seven.

He kind of just showed up one day and that was kind of it.

He showed up and he never left.

He was quite controlling in the house towards my mum and towards me and my sister.

I can't really kind of describe how I felt.

It always felt Like he was the adult and that was just how he was and as a child you kind of just listen to an adult.

That's what you're raised to do.

Back in Swindon I never really knew the danger that we were in.

It wasn't until Ben moved us hundreds of miles away to a little town in Cumbria that I realised that it could get dangerous and it did.

So tell me about the move to Cumbria.

Well, I was going into year six when he moved us to Cumbria, so I was 11.

I didn't know about it until he kind of sat us all down and said, right, we're moving.

We're moving up to Cumbria.

There's this little village called Milham.

My mum and stepdad live up there and we've got a house and that's where we're going.

We've enrolled you in school.
