THE PHENOMENAL DAWN & DEON HAVE ENTERED THE KANULOVE CHAT! 👑❤️🔥 And trust us… this conversation is DIFFERENT! 👀 We’re talking AI. Technology. Black love. Relationships. Identity. Connection…
But speaking, speaking, speaking about being such a, a, uh, what, what's the word? Um, proactive and forward-thinking person, husband, and father, Dion, you know, um, the reason why I thought that this would be a good topic to explore is because with the rise in AI and tech, what we've seen is, um, well, me anyway, what caught my eye was the image of the Black man being used in a negative way, and an example of this was I saw a post of a Black guy.
He's dressed like he's a mechanic, and he's come straight from work to go to his daughter's gr- uh, it looked like maybe primary school graduation, you know, a, an, a s- a graduation ceremony for his daughter, and he still has on his oily, you know-
... grimy, you know, overalls and work clothes, and the image looks so real, and then I clicked on the
thecomments, and I was like, "Wow." People are commenting saying, um, "Oh, you know, why..." No, the caption, sorry, back up.
The caption, it looks like it was the mom who wrote it, and saying, "This is all he does.
He couldn't even make a effort," blahdy blah, and, um, very, very negative, uh, caption.
And then the comments section was, like, people saying, "Oh," you know, "this is, this is Black men.
This is how, um, lax they are with parenting and everything else." Between all the comments, I saw this one comment that said, "I swear I've seen this man," [laughs] "the same man in another picture with another child somewhere else." And I thought, "Oh, okay." So I kind of ignored it, and in fact it was true.
Few days later, as the algorithms have it, I see the same guy in another generated picture, now that I know it was generated, with another child at an important ceremony, and a similar caption, um, saying, "Oh, he didn't even make any effort." I thought, "Wow, this is something to talk about."
Be- because the image of the Black man, um, when it comes to AI, we have to keep an, we have to keep an eye on that.
So yeah, so, y- you know, AI has, uh, taken, you know, I would say the world by storm, or at least a big part of the world by storm, and, you know, it can be used for good and it can be used for evil.
And wherever you find, you know, something that can be used both ways, you're gonna find people who will explore and use it, you know, to, to, to pursue or to push whatever agenda they have.
And so I'm not surprised that you're seeing, um, you know, you know, images and generated stuff with racial overtones, but, you know, that's a part of our society, right? It would be kind of surprising if people were not using AI [laughs] to push their racial agenda.
So, you know, I, I, I try to do with that what I do in my life, which is I try to focus on, uh, more positivity and more what change I can do and what I can influence others to do, rather than focus on the, the naysayers and the negativity.
'Cause when you get into that negative thing, you know, it can spiral and then you can just get sucked into it.
And, um, you know, I'm not always successful.
Sometimes I get sucked in.
[laughs] But, uh, I always have good support around me to try and pull me back out and focus on the positive.
So whenever I'm going down that road, I think Dawn is usually really quick to spot it and, and pull me out of it.
