Just Following Up...Again is back for its fourth season! Opening the season is a conversation between CWC members Sheryl Veira, Hunter Carpenter, APR, and Miranda Colavito, APR about the Mission…
Muffy LavensHostSo just to kick us off, Cheryl, if you don't mind, can you tell us a little bit just about baseline, the origins of Mission Mavericks and where it came from?
Now that sounded pretty powerful to me, but how do you actually, integrate that? How do you get people involved? How do you get them engaged? How is it going to be measured and tracked and how are people going to respond to it? You know, I thought, okay, well, it's just, it can't be a hashtag.
So we created a new position on our board that year, which was the community liaison, which you now are a part of and are handling this year and Hunter Carpenter.
was the one who stepped into that position when I was on the board that year and created that position to carry forward our initiatives that year for You Belong.
And one of those many initiatives within the community was one to how could we possibly grow the chapter regarding membership.
How could we give back to the community through such an initiative? And a couple of us got together and we decided on, after many meetings, many meetings, the name called Mission Mavericks.
And that was because the new Tom Cruise movie was out, Top Gun, which was Mavericks.
And we've had this spirit of volunteerism in our chapter for many, many years.
And so many of our members in the Central West Coast chapter are also representing nonprofits or foundations.
And we've never necessarily had a vehicle before the Mission Mavericks pro bono program in that we would have a patchwork of different initiatives.
And Cheryl's year, actually, part of my community liaison work was having a tracker.
of volunteer hours knowing that many of our board members and members served on various non-profit boards and gave back their time on a weekly monthly basis and so we had challenged them to track those so that we as a chapter could show just how many hours we were devoting to the community
right? But Mission Mavericks, Cheryl mentioned many meetings and there was so much intention that went into creating the program because there are several PR giving back pro bono programs, not just throughout the state, but in our region alone too.
