So talking about and really emphasizing that three-point shooting, it's something that he's tried to develop for some time now, dating all the way back to 2023-24.
He's been attempting them.
He attempted 19 that season, 19 in 64 games on the court, definitely not a large volume, only attempting roughly 0.3 per game, attempting one out of every three games he played, only connecting on a 21.1%, making four of his 19 total attempts, but that didn't faze him, it didn't discourage him and move away from it.
As the year after that, even in 6 fewer games on the court playing in 58, Walker Kessler nearly doubled his 3pt shot attempts, going from 19 to then 34, more than .5 per game, attempting .6 per game albeit only making 6 of them.
No, not much of an improvement, in fact he got a little bit worse, at least efficiency wise, but that's not really a hindrance and I'm glad it didn't bother him, as he then came back in 25-26, albeit in only 5 games but he attempted more of them per game, attempting over 1 per game, and even making more than 1 per game, attempting 8 in the 5 games that he played, and not to mention, making 6 of his 8 total attempts, connecting at a 75% clip.
And if I had to guess, this may have been his breakout offensive year.
Not only 3pt shooting-wise, but offense-wise too.
Finally going above the 10-11pt per game mark, putting up 14.4pt per game in the 5 games that he played.
Now would have that maintained? Maybe, maybe not, that's up for debate.
But I definitely would guess and definitely would bet that it would have been above 11.
A new career high for himself.
Not only that, but a new dimension to his game.
The three point shot looked better.
It even looked a bit more quick in my opinion.
You know, quickly comparing the 2024-25 season to then the 25-26 season with Walker Kessler.
I think it looks a little bit quicker.
There's a lot less hesitation.
Yes, he's obviously open on basically every three-point shot he's ever taken, both during the 24-25 and 25-26 NBA season.
But in my opinion, the release point and the shot motion did get a little bit quicker, probably coming down to confidence in my opinion, which obviously paid off.
He made more of them per game, the efficiency went up, and he was getting a whole lot more comfortable.
For example, looking at the 24-25 season here, catching it in the corner, you know, kind of waiting and daring Yusof Nurkic to come and contest him.
He took like over one second to put the shot up.
He makes it, and definitely a good look for him, but did something that he wasn't quite confident in yet.
But then going to the 2025-26 season, his very first shot attempt of the year, noticing that Ibiza Zubats does not step up, is not going to contest him, so he quickly puts it up, doesn't hesitate, and lets it fire.
That one's not really that quick, but if you take a look at a different shot that came later this game, Kessler put it up even quicker, didn't hesitate one bit, making it from the right corner, even with Zubats, you know, pretty near him.
