Are you ready to dive in and discover that anything is possible when you put your mind to it? Hello and welcome back to It's a Mindset.

But have you ever caught yourself thinking, I'll be happy when, when I achieve that goal, when I have more money, when work settles down, when the kids are happy, when I finally get through this busy period.

We can spend so much of our lives believing happiness is waiting for us somewhere in the future.

But what if being happy isn't about reaching a point where everything is good and we somehow feel happy all the time? Today I'm joined by Declan Edwards, a happiness researcher, educator and philosopher with a master's degree in positive psychology.

And he has shared his work with organisations including the United Nations, General Assembly, TEDx and the Red Cross.

We explore what positive psychology actually is, the perma model of wellbeing, our natural human tendency to focus on the negative and why sometimes there is real value in simply doing something because it makes us feel good.

We also talk about the wheel of emotions and something I found particularly fascinating, the idea that happiness isn't about trying to avoid sadness, anger, fear, or any of the emotions we might consider negative.

Perhaps the more curious we can become about all of our emotions and the more we allow them to move through us, the more room we actually create for happiness.

and we unpack that very familiar, I'll be happy when trap, and why your own happiness matters, not only for you, but because of the ripple effect it can have on everyone around you.

There is so much practical wisdom in this conversation, and I think it might change the way you think about what it actually means to be happy.
