The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released the September jobs report on Friday, October 2nd.

Of note, though, there were 17,000 fewer government jobs, meaning the monthly increase in private jobs was 46,000 nationwide.

Average hourly earnings ticked up by a tenth of a percent last month, bringing the 12-month gain to an even 3%.

Now, while jobs were created, the number fell short of what analysts expected, which was around 90,000 jobs, and the overall federal unemployment rate rose slightly from 4.1 to 4.2%.

Analysts say this shows the labor market is resilient, but not accelerating, and it strengthens the case for the Federal Reserve to remain patient.

The next Federal Reserve meeting, including a rate announcement, will be October 27th and 28th, only a few days before the November election.
