On October 14, 2026, federal NDP Leader Avi Lewis and Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles officially called on Prime Minister Mark Carney and Premier Doug Ford to nationalize the Hamilton-based steelmaker…
Nathan CullenGuestUh, if that, if I've got the name of the company right.
But you know, Nathan, i- if you look at some of the comments that Mr. Goncalves from Cleveland-Cliffs has made about supporting tariffs, he says he supports the tariffs against people who dump steel into the United States, right?
And I think what, and I'm reverse engineering this, like, you know-
...
so, so bear with me.
But you know, acquiring a steel co to, to marry with the Cleveland-Cliffs operations was kind of hoping, as the US government's hoping, that Canada and Nor- Fortress North America on steel tariffs, common alignment-
... and then could dominate the North American steel market, right?
Um, but that may, this may be, you know, reaping and sowing and all of [laughs] those things.
They find themselves in a situation that did not quite go as hoped at time of purchase.
Yes, it is.
[laughs]

When the idea was that we would have a continental industry, that's not the plan anymore.

I mean, this guy's out of Central Casting, right? Like he invited and welcomed in these tariffs.

What is the object of the tariffs? Their objective is to destroy [laughs] Canadian industry.
Mm.

I share my colleague's, uh, view of nationalization as a big throw, but yet here we are talking about a bad actor supporting a bad president, whose intention has been declared over and over again that he wants to destroy Canadian jobs.

So I don't think the federal government's response can be, "We're gonna send you another letter if you don't follow the first letter, and agree to follow the agreement that you signed a couple of years back to protect and maintain Canadian jobs when you bought this mill." So I think for Mr.
