Today we learn ways to stop cold stress in our dairy calves to keep BRD at bay. Peggy Thompson with Boehringer Ingelheim shares some tips.
You may need to feed them another half bottle, another bottle, just depending on how cold it gets.
Certainly, again, just taking care of them, watching them, and making sure you're on top of things.
So Peggy, is there any gaps or things maybe we're doing wrong? And I don't want to use the word wrong, but maybe that we need to improve on in our dairy operations for these calves and even the cows themselves.
It's just certainly as we learn more about these animals and what they can handle, we learn what can make them a little bit more comfortable, right? So then potentially, you know, if you've got a lot of, if you're undercover and there's too much airflow, right, too much ventilation, we know we need ventilation to keep the air clean so they don't get dust and pathogens from BRD.
So controlling things like that, whether you're in calf barns or cow barns, is very important so that those animals can stay healthy and comfortable.
And then obviously that's going to turn into better milk production and healthier cows and calves all around.
