In this special episode, we remember our dear friend and fellow podcaster, Jim Durkin Jr. We put together a highlight reel of Jim from some of the past episodes of the podcast so you can join us in…
It's interesting how as at least as I've been on this journey, to break with religion or tradition or Christianity, if you will, and really embrace a Jesus following life.
And You begin to become aware of how brainwashed we really have been to accept full hog things that the rational mind would look at and say, how in the world can you even propagate that?
and and yet we did and weaved it to be so and now i see so many of my long time lifelong friends just hung up and i'm like man i wish i could take you on the journey i've been on you know but They're not ready to even take the first step.
For me, what we're talking about is when life has so knocked us down that everything we believe about our relationship with God And his ability to come through is being challenged at the very core of that belief.
And that can be anything from death of a very close loved one to a divorce to a business failure.
the thing that challenges all of the things that we confess to believe in, you know, God is good all the time.
Were they platitudes or are they something that's solidly deep in our heart and, uh, Scripture taken out of context, and I don't like it when people use it, but though he slay me, yet will I trust him kind of thing.
It seems like there are two questions that, you know, are like one and two or two and one.
The first one, uh, which is, uh, you know, what we were talking about when we start going through the type of thing that plunges us into that dark night of the soul is, um, the first one, what did I do wrong? And the, and the second one is where is God in this? And like I say, they can, you know, those two questions can be in either order, you know.
But how many years did I spend as a pastor with people coming and the first thing they asked is one of those two questions? And the sad thing is, until I began to learn something, newsflash, pastors don't all know everything.
usually on the what did i do wrong well maybe you didn't do anything wrong but you probably need to increase your devotional life you probably need to you know and uh i struggled with the where is god in this because i had dejected the whole job complex You know, and so, well, where is God in this? And so then the best answer I came up with is I've seen it in memes is the teacher always remains silent in a test.
you know and it's like well that does a lot of good for the person going through it you know but i was also thinking michael see if this fits i was also thinking here's the boys with jesus and They realize that, hey, we're coming to the whole purpose of this.
We know this dude's the Messiah, and he's the long-awaited promise, and man, everything is beautiful.
