There's one exhibition on the not to be missed list at the Cultural Centre in Katoomba.

The Hill Painting Prize is a celebration of the natural landscapes, urban spaces and man-made environments of the Blue Mountains.

The exhibition is a collection of 66 unique paintings which connect audiences to the iconic views, romanticised scenes and realistic depictions unique to the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.

It's the benefactor David R Hill's tribute to the medium and process of painting.

There's some truly awe-inspiring work in this exhibition which is showing until September 20th.

Another exhibit worth visiting is the Blue Mountains Heritage Gallery on Gumsleep Road, Blackheath.

Close Encounters, Birds of the Blue Mountains is a fine photographic exhibition by Warren Hinder.

It's both impressive and educational, with many well-known birds up close and personal.

See images of the tawny frogmouth, the scaly-breasted lorikeet and the gang gang cockatoo to name just a few.
