How Did We Get Here? Where did we come from—and what was the soul doing before it entered a physical body? Author and reincarnation researcher Joanne DiMaggio, MA, CHt, takes us back to the beginning…
Today, I'm gonna talk about something pretty basic: how did we get here, and a little history of reincarnation.
So when I think about how did we get here, I think about that song from, uh, The Sound of Music, the "Do Re Mi" song, when they go, "Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start." So that's where we're gonna start with our conversation, 'cause I really do feel we need to know where we came from in order to understand why we're here.
One of the Edgar Cayce readings that I really-- that sticks with me, where he says, "All souls were created in the beginning and are finding their way back to whence they came." So to understand why and how we got here, we need to familiarize ourselves with the story of creation.
So when I used to have conversations with TJ Davis, who grew up in the Edgar Cayce household, he lived with Mr. Cayce from the time he was born really until he was eight years old, and Mr. Cayce used to take him out on the pier, and they'd go fishing together, and that's where, uh, Cayce taught TJ just so much about metaphysical concepts.
And he said that the one thing that Mr. Cayce taught him that really stuck with him the rest of his life was the creation story because, as I said earlier, he believed, and I agree, that if we can't understand how we got here, then we're not gonna understand why we're here.
And the question of why we're here is almost the number one question I get when people come for a regression.
They really wanna know what's their soul's purpose, what are they doing here? So there's a lot of versions on how we as souls actually came to be, but it's Edgar Cayce's source who provided the clearest and, for me, the most logical explanation of that.
First of all, I wanna say up front that if you take to heart what -- the Cayce quote that I started this broadcast with when I said, "All souls were created in the beginning," you know then that, guess what? There is no such thing as an old soul.
I'm an old soul." There's even some books out there that categorize souls as young or new or beginner souls versus, uh, old and advanced souls.
Edgar Cayce said all souls were created in the beginning, and none have been created since then.
So in essence, we're all old souls because we're all the same age, even though the concept of age or time really doesn't exist in spirit.
There's no distinction of one soul over the other because all of us were created in the eyes of the Creator.
Therefore, privileges are not given to advanced souls, while younger souls are relegated to having their etheric noses pressed against the window hoping for a glimmer of recognition.
Now, the whole idea of an old soul is really more about how many incarnations we've had.
So those souls that have returned to Earth to explore life in a physical body and all that it entails have gathered a significant amount of wisdom in various areas of their existence.
Because they've had multiple lives on the Earth, they've, uh, been able to acquire experiences that they can't get in spirit world.
So through their various incarnations, they've dealt with issues surrounding good versus evil, love versus hatred, or compassion versus apathy.
They've been faced with relationship issues between lovers, family, and friends.
Maybe they've acquired skills or talents or abilities, and they followed multiple career paths.
