Ep. 478: Summer 2026 Listener Questions: Part One!

Why wait?

Let's do it.

Okay, this first question comes from Colleen.

She says, "This may have been asked before.

Do you ever meet someone and automatically think, 'Oh, I am basing a character off this one'? I know I do, and I haven't even written outside my head." [laughs] That's such a fun question.

Uh, yes, that does happen.

In fact, it just happened the other night when we w- had our incident at the Santa Barbara Bowl with that young guy.

We definitely wanted to base a character on him.

Yes.

I think anytime a person really stands out, we file it away in the back of our heads for future use.

[laughs] Good and bad.

Yes.

And I think a lot of times it's, like, an aspect of somebody that we use.

One person who we're always trying to put into characters is our friend Nancy, because she is the loveliest, most filled-with-light person, and we're always saying, "Oh, this is like Nancy, like Nancy, like Nancy."

Yes.

We like to share her light whenever possible.

Yes.

It's hard to bottle.

And then we have a question from Michelle.

She says, "If you weren't TV writers, what other careers could you see yourselves doing? Is there a job you wouldn't do in a million years?" [laughs] I love this.

Yes.

Well, I think we were talking about this, Sarah, and both of us are sort of, like, publishing or book writing, which I don't even count really as an alternate career, although I guess it could be.

I always think maybe I would have been an agent, like a literary agent.

Oh, yes.

You would be really good at that.
