In this episode of Guys Being Dads, Adam and Ben explore the importance of enjoying the present moment, balancing work and family, and finding happiness amidst life's hustle. They share personal…
Well, cool, man.
I think you and I have been having a lot of conversations around this idea, which I'll share this tweet getting into that idea.
But I saw this tweet the other day, and it said, stop delaying joy until life looks a certain way.
You're allowed to be happy while you're still figuring it out.
And that landed for me because I posted something in Monday's newsletter about I was talking with a business partner of mine and he said...
We were talking about business, but he said, hey, at what point are we just done building and we're going to start using the thing that we're building? And I saw that tweet and I'm like, man, that's kind of what we're talking about here.
And...
There are just so many moving parts, I feel like, with dad life and trying to run a business and all the things that come along with it.
And I really just had to take a step back from that conversation on Monday and say, am I enjoying this stuff that I'm working for? Or am I just a cog in the wheel and I'm just...
There's a part of me that really likes the grind and the hustle behind it.
And I genuinely enjoy what I'm doing and building with Dad Day and my agency and everything that comes along with it.
But I think it's really hard when you get in that kind of almost like Groundhog Day mentality to sit back and just say, am I enjoying all of these things I'm working for right now? And I thought that would be kind of a good talking point for today.
No, I agree.
And I think it's interesting because you've always come being an entrepreneur, starting businesses, chasing your vision across the board in many different realms.
And I've naturally always been an employee.
And I think...
As I'm growing up and talking to more people, I naturally always gravitate towards entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, that kind of stuff, or even just people that own their own business.
Because as an employee, I always became best friends with the CEO.
I have a CEO mindset, but I've always been an employee.
And you can, as an employee, you can definitely fall in that hamster wheel of chasing somebody else's dream and you don't have ownership of it.
But also at the same time is like, are you actually happy? And finding the thing that makes you happy doesn't seem like it's achievable.
Because at the end of the day, you're working for somebody else.
So this kind of hit hard for me because...
You can get in that groundhog's day a lot as an entrepreneur, as an employee, as a father, as all of that.
Like this quote just hits across the board.
