Kevin Haynes, Cairngryffe Gundogs

Yeah.

So, but it's a funny memory as well as one that I learned from.

Okay.

Yeah, I think, I mean, when you look at your past and, you know, you cross paths with many different people, you can always learn, I think, from somebody.

There's something in there that you can pick up and go, that or boy, I haven't seen that before and let me try it.

So, you know, I think as dog trainers, we're always trying to, you know, find the next best thing that works.

But then also there's some things that we always do because, I mean, and I'm sure you would agree with this, that pretty much dogs are the same, but then they all kind of have a little bit different tendencies.

And sometimes you have to be, you know, a little firmer, a little softer.

It just depends.

That's right.

Yeah, depends on the dog.

So I guess that would be a good question for you.

So if you were going to, you know, you're building a trial dog now is what your main focus is.

What are you looking for in the dog?

dog?First and foremost for me is definitely driving style.

Okay.

You know, they've got to have that, they've got to have that drive.

Um, and, you know, uh, I've, I've sort of changed opinion, the hunt over the years, but I'm definitely very much for the hunt.

Um, I would say yes, for a trial dog, it has to have that determination.

It has to have, has to have the focus.

And the driving style also comes with the commitment when it, how it takes a retrieve, you know, when it starts off, you know.

So, and, and you can see all that in a puppy dead, dead.

For me, really easy.

Uh, you know, it's, um, I've, I've never found that problem with packing pups.

I've always seemed to, you know, I just, I just, I like that, you know? And the ones I've always liked, and I think it's different for everybody.

Yeah.
