The owners of an historic pub which traces its roots back to 1650 have announced that they will close their doors after being left in a difficult and precarious financial position.

Matt and Joanna, who run the Crown Inn in Biggar, say that they were absolutely devastated to reveal that the award-winning venue will close this Wednesday, the seventh of October.

The Crown Inn, which was named Glasgow and the West of Scotland's Camera Pub of the Year in twenty seventeen, is one of the town's best-known hospitality businesses and has been a fixture in Biggar for centuries.

In an emotional statement shared with customers, the couple said that a business expansion and mounting pressures facing the hospitality industry had made it impossible for them to continue trading.

They said, "We're absolutely devastated to let you all know that on Wednesday the seventh of October, we'll be closing our doors.

Boroughmuir for me are the complete enigma.

You know, they've won two games at home quite comfortably and then they've gone down to Biggar and lost and come down to Gala and lost.

So, you know, they seem to have a problem on the road, seem to be quite useful at home.

So, yeah, I think the Gala, Stirling County this week.
