What happens when the therapist becomes the one who needs help? In this deeply personal episode of Gettin' Gritty for Mental Health Therapists Podcast, Cathy shares the story she's never told…
So where I really want to start today, which is something that Stephanie and I stumbled upon, I don't know, probably a year ago, and you've heard us talk about Mike Foster's primal questions.
And I always think it's interesting, you know, I've been in education in this career for many, many years and there's all kinds of assessments out there like Strength Finders, you know, the Gallup Strength Finders and all these other assessments, Enneagram.
I think those are all interesting to do and take, to take with a grain of salt as you kind of gain insight into like who you are.
as a part of figuring out who you are.
So anyway, we go, we find the primal question.
Stephanie actually finds it.
And, you know, she dives in deep and she's like going, oh my gosh, Kat, you have to try this, right? So I take the quiz and it's very short.
I find out my primal question is, am I secure? And so at first I'm thinking, you know, OK, so, you know, I get I order the book online and I get the book, which is this very succinct, very easy to read book about what your primal question is.
And I turn to the My Secure page and I felt like when I read it and like I said, it's not it's not long and it's not complicated.
That's what I like about it.
And I felt like Mike Foster was writing about me.
Like I was reading this couple of pages of me and I was just like kind of dumbfounded, kind of like, whoa.
So what I learned, but interestingly enough, like, I was like, oh my gosh, this makes sense to me about why I am kind of who I am.
And so if you haven't done this, you should absolutely go do your primal question and just
look at it and think about it and contemplate it.
But
like I said, mine is, am I secure? And so my core need is stability and resources.
And so I'm reading on and I'm like, okay, stability makes complete sense.
I really do.
I like things to be predictable.
I like things to be able to, you know, if problems arise, I don't have problems solving problems, but I want it to move into predictability and routine.
That makes me feel secure.
So the other piece of this is they talk about that in relationships, but they also talk about it in terms of finances.
And I was like, oh, yeah, I need predictability and I need to have enough resources.
One of the big ones is financial resource.
