You can learn: - Why every thought, habit, & decision is shaping the person you are becoming - How parents, culture, institutions, algorithms, & the crowd plant seeds - Why Nietzsche, Kierkegaard…
One of the most remarkable things about a seed is how little it tells you about what it will eventually become.
Something so tiny with so much life, so much potential, so much featureless future ahead.
As a seed, it is almost insignificant on the outside and yet contained with it.
is the possibility of something that may eventually tower over you, an entire future that you cannot yet see.
And I think there is something profound here about the human, because human beings grow over time too.
You are not fixed, not physically and not mentally.
Over the course of a lifetime, we can become something, We can become something else.
And over and over.
Each thought becomes a vote for a future self.
The thought becomes the action.
The action becomes the habit.
The habit becomes character.
And repetition builds character.
And your destination is determined.
And eventually, what once existed invisibly within us begins to take visible form in the person we have become.
The frightening thing is that this happens whether you are paying attention or not.
We are always becoming.
Every day, every conversation, every resentment happens.
we continue rehearsing every act of forgiveness, every person we admire, every voice we trust, every value we organize our lives around.
All of it is participating in the construction of the self.
