Forgotten Paths: One Lucky Day

the side of the King's Road towards the weird forest, you are reflecting on what has brought you here today.

Your knapsack slung over one shoulder, your walking shoes, your walking stick, setting out to find your fortune.

The King's Road, famously, is where your great-grandfather, Balfier, had his brush with death in a stagecoach theft.

And it left him changed.

You know, he eventually did die of old age, but not before leaving his mark amongst the population of Omati.

You know, being a haranguan, he had many, many children and they had many, many grandchildren, of which you are one.

You are one of about 107 children.

that he has created and left behind.

And he did live quite a long time, longer than your standard herring gone for unknown reasons.

As such, you know, he made a good living during his life, but none of that really trickled down to you because it was just dispersed over so many grandchildren.

One thing that none of the grandchildren ever did, though, was follow up on one of Balfeer's last secrets from his life.

Being a mysterious old man, he always claimed that

he left a treasure at the site of his heist.

But nobody ever had the stones to go and find it.

So

this morning, on a whim, as you were eating your oatmeal, you just decided, this is where I'm going to go.

You grabbed your knapsack, grabbed your walking stick and a couple days worth of food and water and set off down the road.

How are you feeling in this moment? It's about noon at this time.

You've been walking for about three hours.

It at a at a first

blush, it feels like optimism, but it really is like if you scratch the surface with your fingernail, it is fueled by desperation.

It is I hope and believe this is going to turn out the way I want it to turn out.

But it's also like it's like when you're playing like PUBG and you're like, I'm going to go in here and I'm going to take on these last couple of sweats and I'm going to win.

But you have to do it because the storm is right behind you.

You better wear a brave face because the other option is like a slow and painful death.
