Carolyn Butler-MaddenHost[upbeat music] Welcome to the For Love and Money podcast, the show where business and social purpose meet to inspire a movement for positive change.
Here's your host, Carolyn Butler-Madden.
I'd like to begin by acknowledging the Gai-Imagal and Garigal people of the Eora Nation on whose country I record this podcast.
What does it actually take to turn purpose into a performance lever? Not a value statement, not a CSR budget, a genuine measurable driver of revenue, retention, and growth.
That's the question at the heart of today's conversation, and it's one my guest has spent the last several years answering with evidence.
Philippa Durrant is country manager for Expedia Australia and New Zealand, and one of Australia's top 50 CMOs.
Over a career spanning more than two decades, she has built and led brands at some of the world's most recognizable companies, Coca-Cola, Virgin, and Expedia Group, consistently demonstrating that brand excellence and business results go hand in hand.
But it was a decision Philippa made a few years ago to gift herself an executive MBA at the University of Sydney Business School for a significant birthday that led to the work we explore in this episode.
Purpose, it turns out, isn't just something you feel, it's something you measure, and when it's embedded in strategy, in people, and in customer experience simultaneously, not in one, not in two, but in all three, the performance impact is significant.
Philippa brings a perspective that's rare, rigorous research, lived commercial experience, and a genuine personal conviction that business can do more than make money for shareholders.
In this conversation, we get into all of it, the research findings, the framework she built to help organizations understand where they sit on the purpose journey, and what it means to lead with both heart and a very clear eye on the P&L.
