Register HERE for the Leadership & Wellness Summit in Frederick, MD, Nov. 19! 154 - Stop Waiting until they Break - Matt Newlands What if we trained…
You know, one of the things that really stood out to me from my conversation with Matt is the comparison between mental health training and every other kind of training we give first responders.
We don't wait until the critical incident happens to teach someone how to use their equipment.
We train beforehand so those skills are available when they're needed, and I've said that so many times.
You have to learn to use them, so why should wellness be any different? We need to stop waiting till people are broken, burned out, disconnected, or walking out the door before we give them the tools to navigate this profession, and that starts with leadership.
So if you're a leader, if you're a chief, a sheriff, a supervisor, a peer support leader, and especially if you are a frontline leader, one of those sergeants or lieutenants in your organization, if you're responsible for people, I hope you take that challenge seriously.
