Recorded live at Boston DAO, join our hosts as they discuss key trends shaping crypto, the evolution of DeFi and decentralization, and how some of the industry's biggest past predictions compare to…
Jack NeureuterHostCatherine WichkerHostMatt AllenHost[laughs] Well, with that, I mean, I think we wanted to talk loosely about some trends today.
Kind of keep things, you know, just whatever we're interested in discussing up here today.
Uh, maybe we just go down the line, talk about some trends we think are interesting, and we'll take it from there.
But for me, one of the things that I've been keeping track of, particularly as a lawyer in this market, is the trend from this asset has value because we all agree it has value to this digital asset represents something that traditional finance has already agreed has value.
How do you tie the asset itself, the real-world asset, to crypto, to the digital asset? And that's been...
That type of shift I've seen more broadly as well in, um, in the market with respect to digital assets as it becomes more sophisticated and it grows more.
And you'd be surprised, the question, at least from a legal perspective, of by giving this to you, does it also transfer the underlying real-world asset is a much trickier question than folks think it.
I would second that, not from a, a legal perspective 'cause I don't get too much into the weeds there, but from our investors.
We're having a lot of discussions like what does this token represent? When, you know, for example, say, the development team that is behind the token gets acquired by a business, what happens to the token? And the list of these questions kind of goes on and on, and it can vary from token to token.
Um, but as Katherine, you mentioned, a lot of that's already been figured out.
Um, and I can't talk about transparency without mentioning, like, the Blockworks team.
But they've made a big push with their token transparency framework to basically kick the industry in the direction of, like, becoming more transparent around what the token actually represents, what the tie is to the underlying business.
Um, but then the also, the other part I'm seeing as well is, um, like, a push from within the industry, right? Projects that are prioritizing this transparency are being recognized and standing out as a result.
Um, so I think that will only solidify in terms of the natural market forces driving that but also, like, the team at Blockworks and other folks pushing that along as well.
