It causes inflammation and swelling in the tissue around the eyes and can lead to visual complications, bulging eyes, double vision, and sometimes even severe pain.
A further complication of thyroid eye disease is it does have, because of the disfiguring appearance, does actually have quite significant psychological comorbidities as well.
So N-Spring works by inhibiting IL-6 within the eye and it's delivered subcutaneously.
And after a loading dose, it's given every four weeks during the maintenance phase.
And one of the real advantages of EndSpring in particular is that it's the first and only approved therapy for use via the subcutaneous route, which means that it can also be delivered at home.
And this has a real advantage for patients because it offers much greater convenience than other biologics, which often require intravenous therapy inside a hospital or office setting.

The TED approval represents NSPRIM's second FDA-approved indication following its 2020 approval for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder.

Because it has already been approved, the treatment is now available for TED patients.
