S4 Ep1 | The Questions That Could Define the WSL Season

A very, very big welcome back to season four of ET with GOTB.

It's been a long time coming.

I'm Rachel.

I'm Sophie.

And this is Extra Time with Girls on the Ball.

So if we were back, that took about three takes for us to get ready.

Third time lucky.

We have had a very long break, a much longer break than I think we've had in a while.

A much needed long break.

And I have to say, I had one of the best summers.

We did.

Yeah.

We went away.

We did.

Very, very far away.

We did.

Didn't think about football a lot.

We did.

We thought about football, but not like...

Not the way we normally do.

Not in

a way

normally.

We went to Southeast Asia.

We did kind of grown up backpacking.

kind of fancy backpacking compared to actually backpacking yeah and we had the best time and I really enjoyed it and we've kind of we dipped a toe in with Chelsea's pre-season in Sydney and we then dipped the other toe in for Chelsea's Champions League there the other night yep I had a great time because I didn't have any of my camera equipment because I forgot I left it in Kent so that was a really good start but no we are back with our first preview episode of the season of our

15th

season yes My God.

Going a long time.

And as ever, we are going to do a two-parter and it's going to be slightly different because we were away.

We didn't do all of the very many media days and not going to lie, I don't have FOMO.

They're really long days.

They're all over the country.

There's loads of them.

They're never on time.

You don't get a lot of time with players.

It's a lot.

Didn't sound like great fun.

And

yeah, when you have to do 14 different clubs.

Whereas in the old days, we used to have like a centralised media day, which meant we just had one day in one location in the country and everyone would come to that location.

And now everyone's, all the press are required to travel around left, right and centre.

So I'm not too sad that we missed out on that.

But it also means we don't have player input for this one, which is okay because we're going to do some work to get some players on board during the season.

So you won't miss out on that.

And sometimes I find we've had players that have then moved clubs by the time we got around to actually doing the podcast.

So again, not the end of the world.

Big season ahead, 14 teams in the WSL, 12 in WSL2, a new local league cup, some changes in the rules from a refereeing point of view, and then of course a World Cup on the horizon, which hopefully...

England and Ireland will qualify for and and the home nations sorry I have to say that but obviously we're kind of biased um so in this two-parter uh we're going to focus in the first part on something a little bit different we're going to do a bit of a broader look we're going to do some big questions I'm going to pose some questions to you and you can give me some answers we'd kind of like you guys to chip in as well we're doing a kind of macro look um at the leagues if you like you want to use a wanky office tone And then episode two, we'll delve a little bit deeper into the top two tiers and the season ahead.

We're not going to go team by team.

There's just too many.

We'd need like 17 episodes and we just don't have time for that.

But yes, it'll be a little bit more traditional in part two.

We'll look at transfers and how people have done, etc.
