All right.
So I do like to start with, A situation you see quite often in your work where someone has achieved a level of success, they have been working hard for, but they are suddenly feeling restless or unsure about what comes next.
What do you think is happening to that person?
Yeah, it's an interesting one, isn't it? A lot of senior executives and lawyers that I work with are very good at working towards a goal, at achieving something.
It's actually a well-known psychological phenomenon called hedonic adaptation.
So, you know, when we're very good at striving towards goals as most high achievers are, we focus very much on the goal.
Sometimes we put the goal on a pedestal because it's what we, you know, we're really focusing all our engines, our drive to get there.
And to motivate ourselves, we tell ourselves that great things are going to happen when we get there.
So I work with a lot of lawyers and I see this a lot when somebody has just been made partner and they'd worked really hard for many years to get there and they believed that it was going to give them more status, more voice in the room and it doesn't play out that way.
It can lead to a very sort of flat period and a sense of low energy and basic disappointment in the goal wasn't quite what they hoped it was.
