Jesus is truth.

The Bible is true.

theology is a discussion about the truth.

So many people seem to think that theology is this exclusive academic pursuit.

It's lofty and it's intellectual and it's out of their reach.

And why should I even care when I have a job to work at, a family to feed, laundry to do, if only it did itself, right? Whatever you've got on your list.

I am here to put the record straight today.

Theology does not need to be intimidating, boring, or beyond you.

It certainly can be, don't get me wrong, there are absolutely branches of theology that I have picked up over the years and put back down feeling more confused than when I began.

But it doesn't need to be that way.

And it's the same with anything, right? I love to read fiction.

I ate up Tolkien's Lord of the Rings when I was about 12 years old.

But for some reason, my brother's favourites at the time, Pratchett's Discworld novels, I have never been able to get on with.

The theology that I'm going to talk about today is of the utmost relevance to you.

It is down to earth, and practical and all about helping you understand the world that you live in and being able to identify what's good and true and help other people do the same.

We are not going to be discussing whether Adam and Eve had belly buttons or whether God exists inside or outside of time.

or if the rapture is something that's really going to happen.

Maybe we'll cover those things in a future series, but not today.

So theology is not necessarily this dry, dusty, dead thing.

It can be, in fact, a very useful discussion about the truth of life.

That said, theology is also not the main thing in life, okay? That's really important to understand.

A young man in the Bible very helpfully approached Jesus to ask him what the main thing was in life.

And Jesus replied in Mark 12, verse 28, says one of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating.

Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, Jesus of all the commandments, which is the most important? The most important one, Jesus answered, is this.
