A planet where the beer is free - EWTS #027

So exoplanets, we better define them to start off.

So they're planets that are not part of our solar system and are very far-

Far, far away

... far, far, far away, in fact.

[laughs] Um, and the story today is how we discovered that our galaxy is packed with millions of planets.

Right.

And it's a, it's a great s-

Do you think we would've bothered if, like, some of the other planets in our own solar system were habitable?

Yeah, I mean, we think Mars might've been once before it lost its atmosphere, uh, 'cause it, it, we definitely have seen signs of liquid water on, on the surface of Mars, so, like, there was, there was seas there at some point.

Long, long time ago.

Which means there was an atmosphere and so on.

Now, we haven't found any evidence of life there yet, but, you know, hey, never know.

Yeah.

Well, the Martians wouldn't let us know, guys, anyway.

[laughs] But here's the thing, right? From the small bit of our galaxy that we've actually surveyed, we have discovered over 6,000 exoplanets confirmed.

Okay.

And, and a few thousand more, uh, that are in the queue to be confirmed.

[laughs]

They're, they're, they're in the middle of the application process.

Yes, they're, they're-

They're just queuing there to see-

Ca-

...

when they get-

Yeah, yeah
