Amy WicksGuestChrista HardinHostHarden, and I'm so glad you showed up for our relationship chat today, as well as for you and your people.
We're all about living intentionally here so you can experience joy and balance in your relationships once again or for the very first time.
Hello my friends, I'm so happy to have you for the Enneagram and Marriage Podcast today and I am grateful especially for Amy Wicks, my dear friend and our guest today who joins us in this month, the actual final week of the episodes on what you can do for your spouse and what you can do to grow yourself versus always looking for your spouse to do for you.
And this is hard, as we've seen, but Amy's here to talk to us about when you're too weary for the work.
Because the truth is, obviously, when we try to hold everything ourselves, we fail.
But many times in marriage, we hold that fundamental attribution error of thinking our spouse should always be do more and that when we don't do more it's because we're tired or we don't feel good and so this month it's been about hey let's do our work but I want to land us in a place that really allows for gentle rest and even for an understanding of the global story arc of exhaustion and weariness that we've been seeing this 2026 although we've had our gorgeous peaks and valleys as well And yes, sometimes the valley is gorgeous because you're just resting, but we've even had our losses and griefs and wearinesses and all these things.
And I think sometimes there's this understanding that you know your Enneagram type, but you don't necessarily know what to do with it, right? Like I know that I'm a seven, but why do I still tend toward gluttony? Or I know that I'm a four, but I still think all the time about melancholy things and can't seem to get out of that rut.
She's walking this walk with us, and she's really done some great thinking, heartwork, and doing to get us moving in a great direction.
She has an upcoming conference she's gonna tell us about, and we're gonna talk through not just her conference today, although I do want her to share about that, because it's free and it's a wonderful place to do this kind of work, right? Where you've got your Enneagram type and you now need to walk through how to be less weary and what healthy rhythms and joyful things you can do to walk alongside yourself when you do have those harder days, moments, seasons.
But I also love that in this episode, Amy and I get right down into it and practical for you today, because we know today you made the choice to be with us, to listen here versus doing something else.
And so I want to welcome you into an episode that's going to both be a present, hey, you're going to take something from it.
I hope friend that you're having a great week and, start to it, middle to it, wherever you are in it.
As I mentioned on my message this weekend, we also had so much fun reading The Count of Monte Cristo.
So Jack and I are just really enjoying our start to our school year, as is the rest of the family, grad student, junior in college.
And Also taking these, we took a mid-week date this week, Wes and I, and he brought me a little flower for my garden.
And I thought, you know, it's these little things of fighting for the little intentional moments in the odd hours that you wouldn't expect that will help us when our kids are grown, and this is for you too, to continue love flourishing.
Because one day as I start, I'm starting to see the liftoff, our kids will be like, you know, okay, bye.
And you'll be two separate missions or hopefully you'll have some differentiation in the middle of that.
But I feel like we're already putting that into practice, the differentiating pieces.
So keep doing that work with us where we're, you know, taking the role of worker or chauffeur to the kids or getting somebody over here to whatever they need to do in terms of friendship, elderly parent, but then coming back for moments together.
So super delighted and excited to join you for this episode with Amy today and to be at her conference together with you if you'd like to join us there.
